It is revealed in “Avatar: The Sense of Water” that Spider is actually named Miles Socorro and that he is the son of Colonel Quaritch, a villain from the first film who once again threatens Pandora’s safety in the second installment, but this time through an Avatar body. Spider is kidnapped by his father, thus forced to spend most of the film with him, forging a bond between them that causes Spider to save him when Quaritch is about to drown, thus endangering the fate of the Sully family. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Champion shared his thoughts on why his character makes this choice: “Well, I think it’s because he spent months with Quaritch. So they built a father-son relationship. And Quaritch just saved Neytiri’s life, so in that moment, he thought: “I’m not going to join him, I’m absolutely sure I won’t, but I can’t let him die, it would be like killing him.” Quaritch is like his father and may be his last hope for a family. So many things come together.”

As James Cameron has already clarified on several occasions, the idea is that the ‘Avatar’ saga consists, for the moment, of six films. On ‘Avatar 3’, which is already filmed and 95% complete, Champion took the time to speak in the interview: “I was really surprised by ‘Avatar 3.’ that would have happened.” You also see more regions of Pandora and are introduced to more cultures. I think it’s even better than ‘Avatar 2’. Collectively, everyone will get better.” The fourth installment of ‘Avatar’, which is also on the way, will be “amazing and rather dark” second sample.

Jack Champion, now 18, was cast as Spider when he was 12 years old. The actor spent his adolescence between Pandora’s cameras shooting ‘Avatar’ films, since recording ‘The sense of water’, ‘Avatar 3’ and the first act of the fourth simultaneously took him from 12 to 16 years old . The actor said shooting the same movie at different ages is weird because of the end result: “In some scenes I’m 14 and then in the next scene I’m 16. So it’s like, ‘Wait a minute, I look a little plumper.’ And then in another scene I’m two inches taller and with abs. Sometimes it’s a little weird.” For those rewatching ‘Avatar 2’, the actor revealed that the first scene he recorded and, therefore, where he looks significantly younger, is the moment Spider is being tortured.
