Dwayne Johnson released a statement on social media about it Black Adam and his future under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios. He shares that he met with Gunn and says Black Adam won’t be part of the first phase of DC’s new film plans.
Johnson continued that “DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be used in future chapters of the DC multiverse.” So it seems like there’s actually a chance we could see Johnson as Black Adam again, but it won’t be anytime soon.
So maybe Gunn and Safran are keeping some elements of DC’s old regime and abandoning others? It will be interesting to see what the plan actually is.
You can read Johnson’s full statement below:
My passionate friends,
I wanted to give you a long-awaited Black Adam update regarding the character’s future in the new DC Universe.
James Gunn and I have connected and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of the narrative. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be used in future chapters of the DC multiverse.
James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It’s no different now, and I will always be rooting for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG.
You guys know me and I have very thick skin and you can always count on me to be direct with my words.
These decisions made by James and DC’s leadership represent their vision of the DCU through their creative lens.
After 15 years of relentless hard work to finally make Black Adam, I am very proud of the film we have delivered to fans around the world. I will always look back on the fan reaction to Black Adam with tremendous gratitude, humility and love.
We did great.
To my passionate and vocal fans of the Black Adam/Super Hero genre – I love you, THANK YOU, and will ALWAYS listen and do my best to serve and entertain you.
What a hell of a month – now we all need some Teremana!
Have a productive week and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you and your families!

I really couldn’t care less if I see Johnson as Black Adam again. That first film was a huge disappointment. I’m a huge Johnson fan, but… Black Adam it just wasn’t a very good movie.
