EXCLUSIVE: Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson are set for Blumhouse’s film of the hit video game Five Nights at Freddy’s.
The characters they play are not specified. Production on the film begins in February in New Orleans.
Lillard recently starred in the NBC hit good girls opposite Christina Hendricks, Retta and Mae Whitman. He appeared in big shows like Bosch, billions, stop and set fire, and much more. His previous films are cult Shout and last reboot from He is all that. He continues to pronounce “Shaggy” for the Scooby Doo Franchise.
Hutcherson is best known for appearing in the highly successful franchise. The Hunger Games with Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks. Hutcherson wrapped filming earlier this year 57 seconds to Morgan Freeman, small mouth with Dennis Quaid and Isabell Fuhrman and most recently The beekeeper. Last year he played with Liev Schreiber and Matilda De Angelis Across the river and between the trees, based on the World War II novel of the same name by Earnest Hemingway. Josh stars in Hulu’s original sci-fi comedy series Future Man, directed by EPS Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen. The series, which Hutcherson also produced with his production company Turkeyfoot Productions, follows a janitor who must fight an intergalactic invasion and stars Eliza Couple and Derek Wilson. His other film credits include Lisa Cholodenko’s Oscar-nominated film, The children are finewhich also received Screen Actors Guild, Independent Spirit Awards and Golden Globe nominations; The Disaster Artista satirical drama that tells the story behind Tommy Wiseau’s creation The space; and several other films. Josh and Michelle Hutcherson’s production company, Turkeyfoot Productions, has partnered with Condé Nast Entertainment and Indigenous Media to release five short films as part of The Big Script, an incubator of emerging millennial filmmakers. The project aimed to find and produce independently created content that thrives on digital and emerging platforms and is driven by unique voices. Each of the short films was released on Condé Nast’s digital platform, The Scene. In addition to his prominent role in selecting the original scripts, producing all five films and supervising the filmmakers, Josh Hutcherson made his directorial debut on the short film Monkey, in which he also shines. Hutcherson continues his passion as a director by making music videos.
As previously announced, Emma Tammi (The wind, blood moon) will direct the film based on the hit game, and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will team up with Blumhouse to bring the game’s most popular animatronics to life.
Five Nights at Freddy’s follows a worried security guard who starts working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. As he spends his first night on the job, he finds that the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be easy to get through. The film was written by Scott Cawthon, Emma Tammi and Seth Cuddeback. The film is produced by Blumhouse in association with Striker Entertainment. Scott Cawthon and Jason Blum will produce the film. Russell Binder serves as executive producer.
