Return to Saturday Mornings in the 80s, but in comic book form with IDW’s upcoming DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: SATURDAY MORNING ADVENTURES limited series

In the 80s there was a cartoon Dungeons & Dragons series that usually aired on Saturday mornings. Now, IDW wants to take you back to those days with a four-issue limited series launching next year called Dungeons & Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures. This limited series is designed to celebrate 40 years of the show and will tell the story of a “lost episode that charts new territory” for D&D. The series was written by David M. Booher And Sam Maggs with art of George Kambadais.

Long before the world turned upside down and new generations discovered D&D, six children rode a magical roller coaster and were transported to the Forgotten Realms! The noble ranger Hank, the intrepid acrobat Diana, the silent thief Sheila, the impulsive barbarian Bobby, the fearsome knight Eric and the uncertain wizard Presto just want to return to their own world. But escaping the Realms proved to be much more difficult than getting there! Danger lurks at every corner, the enigmatic Dungeon Master is anything but helpful, and Venger, the force of evil, will stop at nothing to get his hands on the magical weapons children rely on. Finally, Hank has made a startling discovery: despite the dangers, Sheila, Bobby, Diana and the others aren’t so sure they want to go home after all!”

Sharing their excitement about this, Maggs said:

As a lifelong D&D fan, it’s an absolute dream to set to work reviving a childhood classic. It’s been a blast working with IDW and the good folks at Wizards of the Coast to perfect what made the Dungeons & Dragons Saturday morning cartoon a cult favorite. Preparing these characters for a new set of stories has truly been a career highlight, and I hope fans will love seeing Uni (well…all our cool kids, but especially Uni) back in action as much as I do!

Booher added:

As a kid, I’d wake up on Saturday mornings, pour a bowl of cartoon-themed cereal, and plonk down in front of the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. When IDW approached me about writing Saturday Morning Adventures, there was no way I was missing out on an opportunity to help this D&D party take on Venger once again. I can’t wait for readers to pour themselves a bowl of cereal and join us on an exciting new adventure with Presto, Diana, Bobby and the whole crew!

Kambadais also shared:

Imagine it’s me – a 12 year old boy in the body of a 38 year old man – playing with some of the coolest and cutest characters in one of the most immersive universes ever made. I’m so lucky, yet so freaking scared that one could ever be artist enough to take on this huge job. I hope to do well with Presto and Sheila (my low key favorites)!

You will be able to read Dungeons & Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures #1 in March 2023. The main cover will feature art by Kambadais and variants featuring art by Brenda Hickey And Levins time will also be available. Can’t wait to return to the Forgotten Realms with Hank, Diana, Sheila, Bobby, Eric and Presto?
