‘My Hero Academia’: Netflix will release the live action film of the famous anime

The American production company Legendary Pictures bought the rights to the anime “My Hero Academia” in 2018 with the aim of developing the first live-action adaptation of this series. What is known about the new version of “My Hero Academia” is still not much, but The Hollywood Reporter just confirmed that the film will premiere on Netflix.

‘My Hero Academia’: Netflix will release the live action film of the famous anime

Legendary continues in the production of this adaptation of ‘My Hero Academia’, but from now on it does it with help: it has reached an agreement with Netflix so that the streaming platform also produces it and, moreover, has the rights of distribution. Shinsuke Sato (‘Kingdom’) is directing and executive producing, his first time in these roles in an English-language project, and Joby Harold, screenwriter of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ is writing the screenplay. There is no information yet on the actors and actresses who will star in the film or when it will be released.

‘My Hero Academia’ is a saga set in a society where eighty percent of the population has developed what is called a ‘quirk’, a power that gives special abilities to anyone who possesses it. Izuku Midoriya, also known as Deku, is a huge superhero fan who was born without the Quirk, which prevented him from fulfilling his dream of going to the UA Academy, the most prestigious center for training heroes. But an encounter with All Might, one of the greatest heroes in the world, will change his destiny forever.

Live adaptations

Netflix adapted great manga and anime titles such as ‘Death Note’ or ‘Cowboy Bebop’ into live action, but the result was not very well received by the majority of the public, who did not consider the films a worthy adaptation of the original product. Transferring manga or anime into live action is something very delicate for fans of the sector, especially if the story that is taken as a reference is very popular, as in the case of ‘My Hero Academia’. Only time will tell if we will see a good version of this project or if it will be added to the long list of movies inspired by a failed anime.
