Zoe Saldana explains her comments about feeling “stuck” on movie franchises avatar, guardians of the universe and star pull.
While attending the premiere of Avatar: the way of waterThe actress spoke to Deadline on the blue carpet, where she said she was grateful for the opportunities the famous directors gave her.
“I want to set the record straight,” she said. “I feel grateful and like the luckiest girl in town knowing that I have been invited to work on films with special directors in a special cast. And they went over so well with people that we have a chance to come back and come back. Anyway, I reaped all the benefits, I made friends. I still have mentors that I call and lean on.
Saldana continued, “But you know, I think when I started with my family, it became very difficult for me to keep both worlds going and also the curiosity of playing other different characters or playing an Earthling , to live. ‘Play you know, but I’m happy in space. I’ve always been happy in space. I also have a relationship with people who like space.”
Saldana has played Gamora in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films and has plans for several more sequels avatar, she could possibly play Neytiri in the years to come. In a recent interview with WWD, she noted that she couldn’t experiment with other roles and felt “stuck in these franchises”.
“I’m in a relationship with people like James Gunn and James Cameron and JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg. Because maybe there’s a common thread, maybe there’s something we all have in common, knowing what it’s like to be an outsider and growing up feeling like we don’t belong and finding that space to to be a blank canvas created where you are unimaginable,” she added. “And the fact that they saw me, a little girl from Queens, and I can do those things for them. I can be just as grateful as they keep calling me back.”
