In a year where science fiction has delivered gems that will be remembered as instant classics, “Nope” or “Prey” are prime examples. Science fiction movies have great titles prepared for the upcoming year 2023, which combines stories with comedy, horror, drama and adventure that you cannot miss if you are a fan of the genre.

Probably one of most anticipated sci-fi movies 2023 be ‘Dune: Part 2’, the sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s film which was a critical success in 2021. And which will return to Arrakis again with Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, but this time with new additions such as Florence Pugh, Austin Butler and Christopher Walken. It opens on November 23rd.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Continuing with the great productions of sci-fi movie coming out in 2023, we have “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”. The story is based on the novel of the same name by Suzane Collins, and which will serve as a prequel to the trilogy with Jennifer Lawrence, but this time with Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer, Jason Schwartzman, Burn Gorman, Peter Dinklage and Viola Davis , facing a young Coriolanus Snow. It opens on November 17th.

Now yes, going to science fiction film Less known, but also worth checking out, is ’65’, written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The story stars Adam Driver, Chloe Coleman and Ariana Greenblatt, and is about an astronaut who, after a forced landing on an unknown planet, realizes he’s not the only inhabitant. Release date for March 10th.

Astronaut

Among the large Netflix catalog for the following year, there is one sci-fi film to keep in mind, ‘Spaceman’. It is a film directed by Johan Renck, based on the novel by Jaroslav Kalfař, and which will see the participation of Carey Mulligan, Paul Dano, Kunal Nayyar, Isabella Rossellini and Sinéad Phelps. The story follows an abandoned boy who becomes his nation’s first astronaut. No release date.

M3GAN

Developed from a story by James Wan and directed by Gerard Johnstone, we have ‘M3GAN’, a sci-fi horror film that follows Gemma, a woman who works for a toy factory. The protagonist suddenly has to take care of her granddaughter after the shocking loss of her parents, to whom she presents her latest creation, a doll called M3GAN. Available on January 13, but in Mexico arrives on December 29.

The mothership

Finally, Matthew Charman of ‘Oasis’ and ‘Bridge of Spies’, presents his next sci-fi film for 2023, ‘The Mothership’. The story will star Halle Berry, Molly Parker, Omari Hardwick, among others, and will follow Sara Morse, a woman who loses her husband in an unexplained event, and together with her children they begin a search until they find him. No release date on Netflix.
