‘Sirens’: Oscilloscope Boosts North America’s Wild Rock Doc’s Rights on Female Beirut Thrash Metal Band

Special: mermaidsA rock documentary about Beirut Thrash Metal band Slave to Sirens is hitting theaters after Oscilloscope Laboratories bought the North American rights.

The company, founded by Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch, is presenting the film, which premiered at Sundance in January, before it releases a special theatrical release on digital platforms.

Directed by Rita Baghdad, who co-directed the film with producer Camilla Hall, the film explores the life and music of Slave to Sirens, a group of five young metal heads whose growing popularity is set in the wake of the Lebanese revolution. .

Its members fight for friendship, sex and destruction as their music is a haven for Beirut’s youth culture. At the heart of the group are two founding members, Lila Mayas and Sherry Bechara, whose strained relationship and the ensuing strained fallout threaten the fabric of the group. However, there is an even greater danger that Lebanon criminalizes homosexuality and the devastating consequences for your country’s political regime. Despite the obvious difficulties, Slave to Sirens members are persistently trying to create their own revolution: to live according to their own truth.

The documentary was co-produced by Endless Eye, Baghdadi’s Lady & Bird and Animal Pictures XTR by Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne. It is produced by Rita Baghdadi and Camilla Hall, co-produced by Tatiana El Dahda, Jeremiah Hammerling and Jennifer Teixeira, executive produced by Daniel Renfru Berens, Animal Pictures’ Lyon and Rudolph, and Netflix’s Vice Vice Original Con.
