Superhero Movies That Could Easily Have Been Horror – Marvel (Courtesy)
In recent years comic films have been harshly criticized by various directors, who claim that their stories are almost always the same. However, there are superhero movies that could easily have been horror and show, at least once, that the genre can be extended into other arenas as well, not just action or comedy.
The most recent example of a superhero movie with horror elements is “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. Directed by one of the masters of both genres, Sam Raimi was responsible for the Marvel sequel, which took all the horror of the first part to another level that is rarely seen in the MCU, not without leaving Benedict’s characters aside Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen. Available on Disney+.
spider man 2
This time will not be the last of superhero movies that could have been horror, in which Sam Raimi appears. Well, just in 2004 he released ‘Spider-Man’ with Tobey Maguire, and although the first part has the Green Goblin, starring in some terrifying scenes, it’s the sequence of the operation on Doctor Octopus that could very well be in one of the installments of ‘Evil Dead’. Available on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max and Disney+.
Black man
Now to leave Raimi aside, we have another one very scary superhero movie, is ‘Darkman’, a 1990 cult classic in which Liam Neeson and Frances McDormand star. The story is a full-blown horror storyline, where a scientist is presumed dead when he has an accident in which he is burned alive. But he returns from the dead, and with the intention of revenge. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

blackburn
Now yes, in a more style than James Wan would have directed Superman, we have ‘Brightburn’, a film by David Yarovesky with Elizabeth Banks, in which he imagines if Clark Kent had gone astray. The result is a story in which a boy with superpowers begins to terrorize the entire Earth. Available on HBO Max.
The crow
Despite the infamous story surrounding Brandon Lee’s death on the set of this movie, ‘The Raven’ is a superhero movie like no other. The story follows Eric Draven, a guitarist who is killed along with his girlfriend at the hands of a gang of criminals. But a year later, Eric returns from the dead and now wants to take down the killers of the love of his life.
Batman
And since DC also has plenty of titles that could make the list, it’s ‘The Batman’ that gets a special mention. Directed by Matt Reeves, The Robert Pattinson Story is a crime thriller that borders on terror at times, thanks to an impressive performance by Paul Dano as The Riddler, the villain of the plot who wants to put an end to Gotham’s corruption. . Available on HBO Max.
