Joshua Bassett (‘Night at the Museum: The Return of Kahmunrah’) Wants More Adult and Serious Roles a la ‘Breaking Bad’

‘Night at the Museum’ was released in 2006, and the protagonist of this new version was born just 6 years earlier. Joshua Bassett recalls growing up with ‘Stranger Things’ creator Shawn Levy’s trilogy of films: “I can’t remember a time when there wasn’t one of these movies at home”. Precisely From the kitchen of his home, this young actor, singer and, now, voice actor, who takes over from Ben Stiller, welcomes us in this interview. In reality and fiction, as in “Night at the Museum: The Return of Kahmunrah” he plays the son of Larry Daley who worked the graveyard shift at the Natural History Museum during his father’s summer vacation.

With this new project now available on Disney+, Joshua Bassett establishes himself as a new example of a young actor and singer of the company of mice, just like the well-known Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers started. “It’s crazy. I grew up going to Disneyland once a month with my family”. Now he already has an animated film, a live action (‘Nate’s Dream’) and a series for Disney (‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’), but it all started in 2016 with Disney Channel in ‘Stuck in the Middle’, together with the young and established Jenna Ortega. He seems unafraid of sticking with Disney or getting this Disney boy label: “It’s always been a big part of my life. I wouldn’t trade it for anything, I want to see what’s next”.

In addition to being a house actor, another advantage of debuting in animation dubbing is that he had already worked with his voice for some time in his recording career: he already has 2 EPs and more than 3 million listeners on Spotify . “It’s funny because (‘Night at the Museum: The Return of Kahmunrah’) is the mix of both: voice acting and voice recording”. Since this job had the best of both worlds, he allowed himself to improvise to the point that they were adapting the script to his changes. “I lost my voice after every recording session from all the screaming and weird noises I had to make”.

From Disney to “Breaking Bad”

Most of the Disney youth who preceded him ultimately opted for music or fiction. However, for now, he prefers to delay this career choice: “I will continue to do both”. What he wants to change is his cinematic style to make his filmography more similar to that of one of his industry idols, Harry Styles, who has combined his successful music career with more adult films like ‘Don’t worry, dear’ or ‘ My Policeman’. “I would like to play more serious roles. ‘Breaking Bad’ is one of my favorite shows. To do more serious things and show a different part of my acting is a dream”.
