Jake Gyllenhaal is launching his first major TV series project in which he will star in and executive produce for Apple TV+. The limited series is titled presumed innocent, and was developed by JJ Abrams And David E. Kelley (The Firm, Boston Legal, The Lincoln Attorney).
The series is inspired by the 1987 judicial thriller novel of the same name by Scott Turow. That book was initially adapted into a film in 1990 starring Harrison Fordand tells the story of a horrific murder that shocks the Chicago attorney’s office when one of its own is suspected of the crime.
Gyllenhaal will play Rusty Sabich, “the fervent prosecutor suspected of killing a colleague when evidence begins to point to him.” This role was played by Ford in the film.
Kelley will serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner on the series. He is a lawyer by trade and the series is said to explore “obsession, sex, politics and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to keep his family and marriage together.”
This is a perfect project for Kelley and Gyllenhaal to work on together, and I’m sure it will end up being a great legal thriller series.
