Although the franchise has yet to know if it will continue with the rest of the films after “The Way of Water”, James Cameron already has the script ready for what will be the fourth installment of “Avatar”. And not only that, the director hinted that the story has already been presented to Disney, whose executives were so surprised by what is about to happen that they decided not to make changes to the plot.
Generally, the production company has the final say on what will appear on screen, since they are the ones funding the project. This gives them the freedom to make changes if they want. In many cases, directors have complete creative freedom over their plot, and in others not, but James Cameron says so ‘avatars 4’ He had “zero” Disney Changes.
In an interview for Collider, James Cameron said so ‘avatars 4’ it drove the executives crazy from Disney: “When I turned in the script for 2, the studio gave me three pages of notes. And when I turned in the script for 3, they gave me a page of notes. When I handed in the script for 4 […] the manager wrote me an email saying: ‘Holy shit’”.
The director asked about the changes he needed to make, but the Disney executive was surprised: “And I said, ‘Well, where are the notes?’ And she said, “These are the notes.” Because it’s crazy in a good way, right?” said James Cameron. The director concluded by saying that “I hope they let me do that film”, after proving that the franchise is still viable.

Will James Cameron Complete ‘Avatar’ Story?
James Cameron’s plans with ‘Avatar’ are to continue until the seventh film in the franchise, however, the director hopes to meet Disney’s revenue expectations to finish the story of the Na’vi. And it is so, the director said that he needs to make “The Way of Water”, the third or fourth highest-grossing production in history, so that it can be profitable and cover the investment costs.
Failing that, Cameron agreed for the franchise to stay in the third film and finish the story of Jake and Neytiri before continuing with the saga. Additionally, the director said he’s willing to give up the director’s chair if he can’t continue, as being in charge of blockbusters is too exhausting, Cameron says.
‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ opens on December 15 and the story is set more than ten years after the events of the first film, when now the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their children), the problems they have to deal with stay safe, the battles they fight to survive and the tragedies they experience.
