James Gunn Responds to Recent Reports of Chaotic DC Movies: ‘We Won’t Make Every Single Person Happy’

Reports about the future of the DC Cinematic Universe have been pretty wild lately. There are reports of Wonder Woman 3 be deleted, Henry Cavill don’t come back as Superman, Jason MomoaIt’s time for Aquaman to end after the upcoming sequel, e Dwayne JohnsonBlack Adam will not have a sequel. There are others, but these are the reports that are talked about the most online.

It all seems like James Gunn is bringing the curtain down on the Snyderverse for a fresh start, which makes sense, especially with a new regime change. It’s what I’ve come to expect since Gunn and Peter Safran came on board as co-CEOs of DC Studios.

Well, now James Gunn has responded to these recent reports in a series of tweets, and said they know they won’t make every fan happy with their picks. But they promise to tell great stories that will serve our favorite DC characters.

So. As for yesterday’s story in the Hollywood Reporter, it’s some of it true, some of it’s half true, some of it isn’t true, and some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not.

While this first month at DC has been fruitful, building the next ten years of history takes time and we’re only just getting started.

Peter and I chose to run DC Studios knowing that we were entering a contentious environment, both in the stories being told and in the audiences themselves and there would be an inevitable period of transition as we move towards telling a coherent story across film, TV , animation and games.

But, in the end, the drawbacks of that transitional period were dwarfed by the creative possibilities and opportunity to build on what has worked at DC so far and help fix what hasn’t.

We know we won’t make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise that everything we do is done in service of STORY and in service of DC CHARACTERS, we know you care and we’ve loved our entire lives.

As for further answers on the future of the DCU, sadly I’ll have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters and stories the time and attention they deserve and we ourselves still have many more questions to ask and answer.

Look, I personally trust that Gunn and Safran will deliver something great for DC fans. It might not be what we think we want, but I think these are the guys who will give Marvel Studios a run for its money!

So even if all of this news is true, if they bring the curtain down on the Snyderverse, they’ll be building something even bigger and better to take its place. I wouldn’t be surprised to see many of these characters reframe as they move things in a new direction.
