If you haven’t had a chance to look Steven Spielberg’S The Fabelmans last weekend, I hope you get the opportunity to watch it soon. It’s such a well done film. If you’ve seen it, I have something here you need to hear!
The Directors Guild of America has shared a wonderful conversation between director Steven Spielberg and Paul Thomas Anderson which took place in their Los Angeles theater on Nov. 7. In that conversation, they discuss the Fabelmans.
Spielberg discusses script development with Tony Kushner, the process of directing Gabriel LaBelle to play a version of himself, and the feeling of rediscovering his family through his camera.
They talk about why Spielberg couldn’t make the film until his parents died, discovering his mother’s infidelity, and how he built the wonderful “Zapruder”-style sequence into the film. Anderson praises Michael Williamsalso calling her “one of the best actresses out there right now”. Paul Danowhy the movie is like a $40 million therapy session for Spielberg and more.
It’s a great conversation worth listening to! You can check it out below.
