‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate’: First trailer with a rejuvenated Harrison Ford and lots of nostalgic action

Like a nostalgic burst of emotions, the long-awaited first trailer of the fifth chapter of ‘Indiana Jones’ arrives from Comic-Con in Brazil, in which Harrison Ford puts himself for the last time in the shoes of the iconic archaeologist created by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. The film, directed by James Mangold, It already has an official title, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’announced in a big way in a first advance full of returns and news, nods to the saga, impressive visual effects and lots and lots of action.

While we don’t have an official Disney synopsis yet, we do “The Dial of Fate” is set in 1969, more than a decade after the events of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, and will once again see Indy confront his classic enemies: the Nazis. The film will have the space race as its backdrop, in which the Americans’ struggle to reach the moon before the Russians will make Indy discover some other “inconvenient truth”. Mads Mikkelsen plays the villain Voller, a mad scientist based on Wernher von Braun, a real Nazi turned real NASA engineer; while Phoebe Waller-Bridge brings to life Helena, Indy’s goddaughter, who will accompany him on his latest adventure.

The first teaser also shows us Boyd Holbrook, the first look at Antonio Banderas and the return of a classic character of the saga, Sallah, played by John Rhys-Davies. The cast also includes Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Oliver Richters and Ethann Isidore. For the first time in the saga, Spielberg will not direct the film, giving the reins to James Mangold (“Logan”), although he will remain on the franchise as a producer alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. John Williams, who has scored every Indy adventure since the first Indy film in 1981, returns to compose the score. In addition to the teaser, Disney has released the first poster of the film.

One step further in the CGI rejuvenation technique

The ‘Indiana Jones and Dial of Fate’ teaser is an explosion of nostalgia and emotion for fans of the saga of the adventurous archaeologist. This preview is packed with action and references to previous installments in the franchise (including a final gag that rewrites the iconic sword-to-gun moment from “Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark”), with Waller-Bridge pointing out ways to steal scene in what looks like it will be a very entertaining dynamic duet with Indy. But what is most discussed are the shocking scenes in which we see the digitally rejuvenated Ford.

Disney is very dedicated to rejuvenating its actors in sagas like “Star Wars” or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but with “The Dial of Fate”, the technique reaches a new level. Young Henry Jones Jr. appears to have been taken straight from the past in a time machine. An incredible result that makes us think about the possibilities for the future when it comes to recovering and prolonging the life of classic fictional characters.
