‘The Rebel Empress’ is set in the Christmas season of 1877. Sissi lives suffocated by the rules, constantly observed and judged by everyone, even within her own family.. In this scene we see how, although he can afford to ride a horse with the sound of a grand piano in the background, there is no trace of happiness on his face and his only desire is to escape. But he can’t. Until you decide to take the plunge.
Female at 40 years old
It was Krieps who suggested to Marie Kreutzer to make a film together about such a famous figure as Sissi Empress. The director had taken no particular interest in the character despite him living surrounded by pictures of her in every souvenir shop in Vienna. He was fascinated by that moment when Isabel was already 40 years old and began to rebel against the established rules and become more hermetic: “There’s that feeling of always having to live up to an exaggerated image of yourself, and that’s the only way to get recognition and love” To explain.

‘The Rebel Empress’ arrives on the big screen with an interesting resume, such as the Best Actress Award for Vicky Krieps at the Cannes Film Festival, the Best Film Award at the London Film Festival and nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards and at the ‘European Film Awards. The film has already been distributed in Spanish theaters by ADSO Films.
