Dwayne Johnson Reveals Warner Bros. didn’t want Henry Cavill to return as Superman

Dwayne Johnson celebrates the success of Black Adam in movie theaters and on iTunes. As everyone knows, Henry Cavill had a cameo as Superman, something Johnson was initially reluctant to bring the actor back for, despite Warner Bros.

In a video posted on Twitter, the DC star said he wants to establish Black Adam “as the most powerful, unstoppable force in the DC Universe.” To control the latter, Johnson said, “We have to bring back the most powerful, unstoppable force of all time to any universe. And you know who I’m talking about? It’s Superman, of course. And it’s Henry Cavill.”

Johnson then revealed that the studio “inexplicably and unforgivably” didn’t want to bring Cavill back, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer and his team went to work.

“It was years of work to bring Henry Cavill back and there were years of strategic discussions and we didn’t want to take no for an answer,” he added. “It was impossible, there’s no viable logical way you could try to build the DC Universe without having the greatest power and greatest superhero of all time on the sidelines. It’s impossible.”

Johnson continued, “It all comes down to Superman, you have to have Superman in the mix. That’s why we fought hard to bring Superman back, Henry Cavill, and by the way, there wasn’t another Superman we could bring back .Henry Cavill is our Superman generation and in my opinion the best Superman.And I mean that in relation to the other actors especially Christopher Reeve but the greatest Superman of all time.

Back in the DC Universe with Cavill, the Black Adam star said that they “can now build the DC Universe well, strategically and intelligently.” Johnson also noted that since the film’s release, “the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe has changed and obviously now we have new leadership at DC and at Warner Bros.”
