Ang Lee will direct the Bruce Lee biopic with his son Mason Lee playing the martial arts legend

Ang Lee is set to direct the Bruce Lee biopic produced by Sony 3000 Pictures. it was also announced that his son, Freemason Lee (Billy Lynn’s long halftime walk, The Hangover Part II), is taking on the role of the iconic martial artist. Screenwriter Dan Futtermann (Convertible top And Foxcatcher) is currently working on a script he has previously worked on John Castelli, Alex Law And Mabel Cheungand, more recently, Wells Tower.

As a fan of Bruce Lee, I have seen all of his films, I have seen all of the documentaries and the biopic I am most familiar with is the 1993 film, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, of which I am a fan. But, after the beauty of the IP Man franchise, I was wondering when we would have a new Bruce Lee biopic. The time has come and I am happy to know that Ang Lee is the director who will tell the story of him.

Lee said in a statement, “Accepted as neither fully American nor fully Chinese, Bruce Lee was a bridge between East and West who introduced Chinese Kung Fu to the world, a combat scientist and iconic artist who revolutionized both martial arts than action cinema.I feel compelled to tell the story of this brilliant and unique human being who longed to belong, possessed tremendous power in a 135lb frame, and who, through tireless hard work, transformed dreams impossible in reality.

Producer Elizabeth Gabler he added, “Bruce Lee is a long-running passion project for Ang and a deeply emotional story depicting the triumphs and strife of one of the foremost real-life action heroes of our time. All of us at Sony and 3000 Pictures are proud to help Ang and his team of filmmakers create what we believe will be an extraordinary theatrical event.”

Lee has been working on this project for a long time and his son has been training for the role for the past three years. Can’t wait to see what Lee and his creative team come up with! I’m excited to see what comes of it!
