James Cameron had a directing career. Not only has he made a number of fantastic films, but he has also directed two of the highest grossing films of all time. However, people still doubt him when it comes to Avatar: The Way of Water.
Cameron is 68 years old and starting to think about ending his career. He has spent a lot of time developing the Avatar films and will continue to do so. In a recent interview with THR, Cameron discusses his plans for the next sequels, which will arrive every two years until 2028.
“We’ll probably finish the third movie anyway because it’s all shot. We’d really have to break down because it doesn’t look like the additional investment is worth it. We should leave a smoking hole in the ground. Now hopefully we can tell all because five is better than four, four is better than three and three is better than two.
He goes on to confirm that if audience demand is still there, he’s already planning Avatar 6 and 7, but will have to pass them on to another director:
“I’d been 89 by then, [but] obviously, I won’t be able to make Avatar movies indefinitely, [with] the amount of energy required. I should train someone to do that because, I don’t care how smart you are as a director, you don’t know how to do it.
He went on to say that he wished he could at least direct three more Avatars movies before handing the franchise over to someone else, and including those, he says he only has “five or six more movies in him.”
So, we’ll only see Cameron make 2 or 3 more movies outside of Avatar. While I’m excited about the future of Avatar, I’m more excited about what the other film projects will be! What other stories does she have on her brain that he wants to do?! This is what I want to know!
What other film genres would you like to see James Cameron star in with the non-Avatar films he wants to make?
