Hugh Jackman refused to be the new James Bond to become Wolverine

Now that Hugh Jackman is back as Logan for the third ‘Deadpool’ movie with Ryan Reynolds, the mutant actor has explained what he had to go through in order to continue the role of Wolverine. And it is that, at the time they were looking for the actor of the new James Bond, Jackman was considered the first option for the role.

During an interview for IndieWire, Hugh Jackman reveals he turned down the role of James Bondafter starring in Bryan Singer’s first trilogy of Fox’s ‘X-Men’. The franchise, which would later star Daniel Craig, was going to have Jackman for its first film, ‘Casino Royale’, but with another big saga looming, it had to keep priorities of him.

And to avoid scheduling conflicts, Hugh Jackman had to continue as Wolverine instead of James Bond, since he didn’t want to focus only on action and big franchises: “I didn’t want to do the same. You know, the action star hero. He was the “hub” of much of American cinema, that archetype. I had to think about it [interpretar a James Bond]. I said to myself ‘if I do that and Wolverine I won’t have time for anything else’. Clearly I found it more interesting to play characters who stray from those jokes.”

The decision resulted in Hugh Jackman to bring Wolverine to life in a new X-Men trilogy, as well as three individual character films culminating in James Mangold’s “Logan.” Now, having said goodbye to the character after 17 years of incarnation, Jackman is determined to return once again in “Deadpool” alongside Ryan Reynolds, but now, finally within the MCU.

Who will be the new James Bond in the cinema?

With Hugh Jackman striking a deal between Disney and Marvel to see his return as Logan, the question now remains as to what his version of Agent 007 would have looked like. actor to give life to the new James Bond after the abandonment of Daniel Craig. Many names have been considered, but the production house has confirmed that it will be a process that will take many months.

Some names mentioned are Tom Holland, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cillian Murphy, among many others. However, so far there are no strong prospects for the production house, but it is expected that it will be 2023 when the list of possible candidates to commission the new version of Agent 007 will be revealed.

On the other hand, Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine will take place in ‘Deadpool 3’, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Reynolds. So far it doesn’t have a release date within Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it should come out in 2024. So we’ll have to wait for new details.
