The outcome of a tape doesn’t just rest with the production company or director, as responsibility also lies with the writers, actors, designers, and basically an entire production team behind each one. However, many times the studio has the final say in the decisions that are made, and even if the outcome had been different, these horror movies could have been better if they came from A24.

Although Charlie Kaufman’s story in ‘Think of the End’ already has a fairly solid and convoluted foundation, probably with A24 this horror film would have turned out differently. Kaufman’s leap to directing proved to be quite an interesting exercise with Netflix under his belt, but if the liberties of the studio founded by Daniel Katz, David Fenkel and John Hodges had intervened, things would have been different.

Mr. Harrigan’s telephone number

Almost the same as the previous one, because ‘Mr. Harrigan’s telephone number’ is a Netflix horror film, which would have found better luck with A24. John Lee Hancock, responsible for “Little Secrets” or “An Impossible Dream”, released this film based on a story by Stephen King, who is also a producer, but it was not the result that fans expected.

the left cures

It is strange that Gore Verbinski did not choose to play ‘The Sinister Cure’ with A24 behind him, as he has all the style that A24 could use. With Regency and distributed by 20th Century Fox under its belt, this story starring Dane DeHaan and Mia Goth follows the life of a stockbroker who finds his way to a mysterious spa in the Swiss Alps from which the residents have never been seen returning. Available on Star+, HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video.

Don’t worry honey

It is likely that the result would have been similar, but apart from the controversy with the director and her protagonists, ‘Don’t worry’ would have been improved with the help of A24. Directed by Olivia Wilde and starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh, the great studio acquaintance for ‘Midsommar’, this story of a couple hiding secrets had great potential behind it. Available on HBOMax.

You smile

With Parker Finn’s inexperience and A24’s long history, ‘Smile’ could have been a completely different horror movie. While the original outcome was quite favorable in this case, one wonders what would have happened to the story of this doctor haunted by a terrifying curse, in the hands of a more experienced study.

Perfection

Finally, another example of an interesting but wasted story from Netflix is ’Perfection’, a horror and suspense film that subscribers barely managed to give it a 57% approval rating. It is the story of a girl with an innate talent for the cello, but on her road to fame, she finds herself with very stiff competition to the top.
