Rian Johnson explains why he’s excited about the “new and fresh” future of STAR WARS

How Rian Johnson he’s doing press for his murder mystery film, Glass Onionthe people who interview him cannot help but ask for information Star Wars. That’s why he’s been talking about it so much lately because people keep asking him. He set up that trilogy at Lucasfilm and maybe one day he’ll actually get it done.

But he doesn’t actually talk about it in this interview! Instead, he shares what makes him so excited about the future of Star Wars and projects that are already under development. He is thrilled that the filmmakers are doing things with the franchise that have never been done before, things that are fresh and new:

“Well, for me what’s exciting is embracing sort of what’s so exciting about Star Wars, but doing it in a way that we’ve never seen before is new and fresh. I feel like a lot of the voices that are right now working in the world of Star Wars he’s doing that and for me it’s super thrilling to see so many different kinds of stories my friend Leslye Headland is doing a show right now that I know is going to be something totally wild and different. the guiding principle, it’s just what we can do that looks like Star Wars but we’ve never seen before. It’s quite thrilling.”

Headland is currently working Star Wars: The Acolyte, which should make for a very interesting story. The story has been described as “a mystery thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of dark secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” The High Republic is set 200 years before the start of the Skywalker Saga.

As for Johnson’s project, all we know is that it will create a new trilogy with new characters “from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never explored before.” Johnson also said he still meets regularly with Lucasfilm and talks with the president Kathleen Kennedy about his project:

“I stayed close to Kathleen [Kennedy] and we often meet and talk about it. It is only at this point a question of the schedule and when it can happen. It would break my heart if I’m done, if I can’t go back to that sandbox at some point.

When he previously spoke about his plan to explore new characters in his films, he said, “We’re doing something beyond traditional characters. What does it look like? For me, the blue sky element is what impressed me the most. I know how I’m getting there, and what’s fun for everyone in George Lucas movies, is to figure out, “What’s the next step?” It really makes you think and understand what is the essence of Star Wars it is for me and what it will be like moving forward.

It would be interesting if Johnson ever gets to make this movie. He says it will, but who knows? Lucasfilm doesn’t even seem to know what they want to do with the film side of the franchise.
