HBO renews ‘The White Lotus’ for a third season with new locations and cast

It’s official: there will be more ‘The White Lotus’. HBO’s hit anthology series is about to cross the middle of its second season, but the prestigious chain did not want to wait any longer to announce the renewal for a third installment.

As happened between the first two seasons, the series will renew its distribution and will take place in a new location, with self-contained plots that will feature guests and workers of another hotel resort of the fictitious chain around which the series revolves. The first season took place in Hawaii, while the second is set in Sicily. For now it is not known where we will travel next time.

Jennifer Coolidge is becoming the exception the only character from season one to appear in season two, so it is possible that this trend will continue and, in the third, we will see again a character from the previous two, herself or others. Although for now there is nothing confirmed about it.

Created by Mike White (“Enlightened”), ‘The White Lotus’ premiered in July 2021 with little expectation and became one of the surprise hits of the year, captivating audiences and garnering Emmys with 20 nominations, of which he won 10 awards (the highest number of the night). Although it was initially conceived as a miniseries, its success led HBO to renew it as an anthology series. The second season continues the awkward and satirical style of the first, with a renewed cast that includes Theo James, Aubrey Plaza, Michael Imperioli and Haley Lu Richardson.

HBO couldn’t be happier

Although “The House of the Dragon” is the most watched series on HBO, the truth is that “The White Lotus” is today one of the most popular titles in the chain. This is indicated by its presence in the online conversation and its ratings, which continue to grow. The second season premiere was up 63% from that of the firstand the series is posting strong streaming numbers week after week on Warner Bros. Discovery platforms.
