Candace Cameron Bure is best known for her role as DJ Tanner, the eldest of the sisters in the series ‘Full Forced Fathers’ and star of the reboot ‘Fulfilled Mothers’. Until recently, Cameron was also known in the United States for her role in more than thirty Christmas movies for Hallmark, a cable television channel. However, the actress has decided to leave Hallmark guided by her conservative outlook and will continue her career on the Great American Family channel. Cameron explained that the change was primarily motivated by a matter of Christian faith and values, according to Deadline. “I knew the people behind the Great American Family were Christians who loved the Lord and wanted to promote faith-based programming and good family entertainment.”says the actress. “My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning, purpose and depth behind them”. However, the actress doesn’t want to abandon potential fans who don’t share her conservative ideals, arguing that her films for Great American Family will not be “unpleasant for an unbeliever or one who shares a different faith”.

Cameron concluded that he left Hallmark because “it’s a completely different supply chain than when I started due to the change in leadership”. So it’s no surprise that he’s moved to the Great American Family, where he’s reunited with his former Hallmark boss, Bill Abbott. According to Deadline, Abbott gave him the freedom to produce and create content under the banner “Candace Cameron Bure Presents”.

representation against tradition

Hallmark has positioned itself in this sense, stating that their desire is that “all viewers are seen in our programming and all are welcome”. Proof of this is that this season he is promoting his own First LGTBQ+ Christmas movie: ‘The Holiday Sitter’. The plot follows the story of Sam, who will have to take care of his grandchildren during the holidays and will end up asking for help from Jason, his attractive neighbor.

On the contrary, Big American family “presents itself as the benchmark for Christians who think Hollywood is ruining Christmas”, according to the Wall Street Journal. Against all odds, Abbot says the chain is closed to nothing: “We are definitely in the year 2022, so we are aware of the trends”he says, without specifying which trends he is referring to. “There’s no chalkboard that says, ‘Yes, this’ or ‘No, we’ll never go here'”. However, Abbott left the network shortly after declining to air ads for a wedding planning website featuring kissing brides.. This sparked outrage from many viewers, who trended #BoycottHallmark on Twitter. The network apologized to viewers and reinstated the ad, but Abbott left Hallmark shortly thereafter.
