Anya Taylor-Joy made her Hollywood debut in a big way, with Robert Eggers’ horror film ‘The Witch’. When asked how she found out she landed the role of Thomasin in “The Witch,” Taylor-Joy recalls: “It was the same day I was cast in a pilot on the Disney Channel. It was so exciting to be cast in anything that I ran around the house like crazy. But I had a very good feeling about ‘The Witch’ that made me want to give up the Disney experience. in favor of something unknown to me, something that seemed sacred to me”.

Several years and many roles later, Taylor-Joy still values ​​her experience filming ‘The Witch’ in a remote location about six hours from Toronto and with almost no connection to the outside world: “This gave me the cornerstones of what is now my way of working, which essentially boils down to the idea that there is no hierarchy on set: You have to work hard, be aware of the footage you’re taking and not assume that someone else is going to do it for you.”she explains, “Your title isn’t limited to being an actor/actress, you’re part of the creative team on the film and that’s how you should approach it.” He must also have enjoyed working with Eggers, with whom he repeated this year in ‘El Hombre del Norte’.

Broken heart

Of course, not everything was wonderful, because for Taylor-Joy the experience of ‘The Witch’ can also be compared to being heartbroken: “My first heartbreak wasn’t a relationship. My first heartbreak was finishing my first job and experiencing that loss,” Taylor-Joy said during her “Actors on Actors” for Variety, “The loss of a world that existed with a group of people who became my everything for a period of time, and then it was all over. I had no idea how to deal with that.” His upcoming projects include the ‘Mad Max’ spin-off ‘Furiosa’ which will be released on May 24, 2024 and much earlier ‘El menú’ which will hit Spanish cinemas on December 2.
