Daniel Radcliffe talks about his favorite joke on the set of HARRY POTTER – A Fart Machine Joke Caught on Camera

The Harry Potter the books tell an epic magical story involving love, loss, the battle of a life, death, despair and hope. They were a huge undertaking to make into a movie, but it was done beautifully and to keep the feeling light and pleasant on set, there were a lot of jokes behind the scenes.

In 2014, during a Reddit AMA, star of the films, Daniel Radcliffe, recalled his favorite joke on set, which was actually withdrawn at his expense! He explained who the scene was from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkabanand it took place in the Aula Magna, where the students were sleeping in their sleeping bags.

Has elaborated:

“The camera starts very, very wide and goes in so it’s an inch from my face, a very long development set. Alan Rickman decided he was going to plant one of those fart machines in my … sleeping bag, and they waited until … the camera came in for this huge DRAMATIC shot in development, and then unleashed this tremendous noise in the Great Hall.

He went on to say he thought one of the other guys was behind the fart machine prank, but it turned out he was. Alan Rickman (Severus Snape), with the help of Michele Gambon (Albus Dumbledore) and the director Alfonso Cuarón.

According to a behind-the-scenes interview with Cuarón, Radcliffe requested that his sleeping bag be placed “next to a particular girl he liked” while they were filming that scene. Of course, he was unaware of what Cuarón, Gambon and Rickman had planned. As Radcliffe said on Reddit: “I think I laughed a lot [and] he was probably a little embarrassed, but it was really a lot of fun.

Luckily the whole thing was captured on camera, so you can check it out below. It’s great to see the smile creep into Alan Rickman’s face and Daniel Radcliffe trying to hold it back. These movies are so loved and the outtakes are just as great!
