Michael Imperioli (‘The White Lotus’): “Sicily is one more character”

In cinema, Sicily is synonymous with mafias and gangsters. But, in reality, the Italian island is one of the favorite holiday destinations for many tourists. Packed with history, good weather and a happy spirit, “The White Lotus” series wanted to mirror it like never before. The project conceived by Mike White changes the Hawaiian paradise for the coasts and the Mediterranean mysticism. To do this, he recovers the characters of Tanya and Greg, which he surrounds with new rich families who want to have fun.

“Sicily is another character and will be affected by ‘The White Lotus’ because many people will want to go there after seeing it”, says Michael Imperioli (“The Sopranos”) in an exclusive interview for eCartelera. The actor plays Dominic Di Grasso, a womanizer who travels to the resort with his son Albie and his father Bert. The latter is played by F. Murray Abraham (“Amadeus”), who also sees Sicily as a unique setting. “Something is happening that reminds you of the Greek myths that came with it, the gods that work right next to you”ensures, “there is a deep connection with nature on a very deep and primal level that affects everything you do”.

In the series, both characters live in a cloud of privilege that completely elects them from the real world. “Power hits people to bring out the worst in them. It gives you control and feeds your ego.”reflects Imperioli. Murray Abraham acknowledges that he himself suffered in his flesh from that excess brought about by success: “In Rome, after conquering a nation, the hero entered the city wearing a laurel wreath. But behind him was a servant holding the crown and whispering to him: ‘Remember that you are human.’ won the Oscar someone did., because I became a bit of an idiot for a while “.

New hotel, new manager

‘The White Lotus’ also has an Italian cast among its ranks in this new satirical misadventure. Beatrice Grannò and Simona Tabasco play two young people who take advantage of newly arrived tourists to squeeze their money. And Sabrina Impacciatore becomes the resort manager to collect the legacy of the iconic Murray Bartlett. “I haven’t slept in weeks because of that confrontation”she nervously states, “I suffered a lot for this role, I put all my heart into it”.
