Sam Rockwell has been on the big screen since the 1990s. However, his career has accelerated in quantity and quality in recent years, working in iconic roles with famous directors in Taika Waititi’s “Jojo Rabbit” and Clint Eastwood’s “Richard Jewell”. Additionally, he can boast two Oscar nominations in a row with his triumph in ‘Three Billboards Outside’ and as George W. Bush in ‘The Vice of Power’. British agent Stoppard, charged with solving a murder in a yellow comedy, has been added to this list of particular, somewhat antisocial characters since Friday 21 October.. Let the festival of self-referentiality and sarcasm begin.
As much as Mark Chappell’s script is referential, its protagonist confesses in this exclusive interview for eCartelera that the shoot was “horrifying”. It is no exception, considering that the film was shot in a completely closed London due to the second quarantine. Between the uncertainty of the pandemic and this much more seasoned character, ‘Watch How They Run’ compared Sam Rockwell to the weight of maturity in his career and character.. “I think with the pandemic we’ve all gotten a little bit older. (…) This particular character already feels too old for his age, to have been a soldier in war and to be a drunkard. And his heart. has been broken. This makes him age a lot more..

As the protagonist of the film, he has the daunting task of bringing the greatest amount of drama into a generally comic story, through this subplot about Stoppard’s past.. To achieve that balance, his trick was to be authentic and “down to earth, because otherwise it wouldn’t be fun or exciting”, only the two pillars of ‘See how they run’. The other big challenge was to change his Los Angeles accent for the marked British touch of each dialogue in the film. But Sam did his homework. “I asked some friends to read me the sentences. I had two pronunciation teachers. I have seen many English films.”.
There is still room for him in the multiverse
As old as it may seem at 53, it’s never too late to look back. Nothing rejuvenates more than a good blockbuster in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I love that world and be part of it”. Except in cases like “Charlie’s Angels” or “Cowboys & Aliens”, his biggest movie was “Iron Man 2”. After being considered by Jon Favreau for the role of Tony Stark himself, he ended up being the director of weapons Justin Hammer. His character would be perfect for the upcoming “Armor Wars” movie and he seems willing to return to the MCU there or elsewhere in his multiverse.: “Of course I would go back. As a different character or even as Justin Hammer”.
