In the 1990s, the miniseries “It”, later turned into a feature film, caused many people to start experiencing coulrophobia along with Pogo, the alter ego of John Wayne Gacy. Hidden among masks, makeup, and smiles that made them look friendly, these horror movies cursed clowns who were actually psychopaths, murderers, and even god-like beings.
Element
Prior to the release of the miniseries, Stephen King created Pennywise in the pages of the novel ‘It’, a cursed clown who was actually an almost divine entity who came to Earth every 27 years to reclaim the bodies of Derry’s children. The story had a remake in 2017 and its sequel in 2019, starring Bill Hader, Jessica Chastain, James McAvor, Bill Skarsgard, Finn Wolfhard, among many others. Available on HBO Max.
Gacy the killer clown
As we said before, John Wayne Gacy was a real killer who liked to wear a costume to lure boys and girls to his rooms. ‘Gacy the killer clown’, is a horror film not suitable for people with coulrophobia, as it portrays the biography of this man who killed more than 30 people. Directed by Clive Saunders, and starring Mark Holton, Joleen Lutz. Allison Lange, among others.
Points
It is probably less well known than the previous two films, but ‘Points’, is one of the best horror movies featuring killer clowns. In this story, a man who dresses up as a clown and his friends kill him. Six years later, he returns from the grave to take revenge on his fate. With Ross Noble, Gemma Leah Devereux, Shane Murram and Eoghan McQuinn.
terrier
Now that the second part is out, remember ‘Tterrifier’ e Art, the clown, one of the bloodiest horror films that they have seen in recent years. It is a Halloween in which one of the most brutal massacres in the town took place, where the author, a clown, disappeared and is believed to be still alive.
The house of 1000 corpses
So that you can glue it with the previous one, this tape is also one that, if you didn’t have coulrophobia, you will soon have it. “House of 1000 Corpses” is directed by Rob Zombie and stars Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon, Rain Wilson and others. It is a group of young people who travel the country in search of curiosity for a novel, until they come across the legend of a killer known as “Doctor Satan”. Available on Amazon Prime Video.
Clownstrophobia
And finally, there is no better killer clown horror movie that sums up the intent of this list of “Clownstrophobia,” directed by Geralinde Winters and Daniel Dowding, starring Chris Dimoulas, Amanda Bochko and Bobby Max. The story follows a psychiatrist who deals with the fear of clowns of a group of young people. That same night, a murderous clown escapes from an asylum and chaos ensues.
