The NFT industry has been in fashion for some time and there are still new companies and brands interested in entering this digital world. This is the case of one of the most popular fantasy sagas in history, “The Lord of the Rings”. Before continuing, it is important to have a rough idea of what NFTs are, as it is still an unknown concept to many people. An NFT can be understood, in a very simplified way, as a unique receipt, art, or digital file that a buyer acquires. This is stored on a blockchain as proof of ownership of a unique digital asset. It can be an image, a drawing or anything that can be digitized.
Taking advantage of the still popularity of this market, Warner Bros. Discovery has partnered with blockchain company Eluvio to release the extended version of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in NFT format. It will be a limited edition, the first film in the trilogy will only be released twice as an NFT and can be seen on the WB Movieverse website.

In itself it can be a complicated concept to understand, but it is even more so considering that this NFT is from a movie released twenty years ago and can be enjoyed both in physical format and streamed on HBO Max. So, how are they going to do it. to transform the vision of this film into NFT? Warner Bros. Discovery is printing 999 copies of the Epic Edition, priced at $ 100 each, and 10,000 copies of the Mystery Edition, priced at $ 30 each, of “The Fellowship of the Ring”.
Warner Bros. Discovery expanded the information in an interview for Variety: “Both editions allow buyers to view the extended version of the film (which lasts 3 hours and 48 minutes) in 4K UHD. along with access to over eight hours of special features, hundreds of images and hidden collectibles. The Epic Edition includes navigation menus for three locations from the film: The Shire, Rivendell, and Mines of Moria, along with location-specific images. The Mystery Edition includes one of the positions, assigned randomly. The Epic Edition also includes additional image galleries that are not featured in the Mystery Edition. “
The era of digital collecting
All this information may seem familiar to those who collect special edition DVDs and Blu-rays. They also have fancy menus, special functions, image galleries … So how are NFTs different? As Eluvio’s executive director and co-founder Michelle Munson explains for Variety: “Warner Bros. can customize the content for each NFT, to make it more of a gaming experience over time. The core digital assets of the experience, along with the derived NFTs, are all on the blockchain, not just the token.” (NFT) itself. This means that smart contracts and content experiences can be dynamically updated over time. “
