Universal and Amblin meet with the directors to tackle the TWISTERS sequel

Universal and Amblin are booking meetings with directors to see who should direct the film Twister, which they hope to go into production next spring. The film will be the sequel to the beloved 1996 film, Turtledoveswhich followed advanced storm hunters who were trying to get as humanly close as possible to a tornado to activate their invention, which would track the beast and send warnings to those in its path with much longer reaction times.

The film starred late, great Bill Paxton And Helen Hunt in the lead roles, as well as a fantastic supporting cast. The movie is a favorite of so many people, so I think it’s really exciting that they are making another one! It won’t be the same without Paxton, but I’m willing to bet it will still be a lot of fun to watch.

Deadline reports that that of Amblin Steven Spielberg he himself went crazy for the script for The avenger scribe Mark L. Smithand his enthusiasm provided the impetus for the accelerated film. Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski was about to direct, but fell out of the movie when he committed to the Formula 1 racing vehicle for Brad Pitt that Apple acquired last June after a big auction earlier this year.

Sources say the hope is to bring Hunt back, with a drama centered around the daughter he had with the character played by Paxton. She caught the storm chasing bug her parents had.

They have not yet locked up a new director, but among the filmmakers in question is the Oscar winner Only free team of Jimmy Chin And Elizabeth Chai Vaserhelyi; Dan Trachtenberg. who recently directed the fantastic Predator reinvention Prey and before that 10 Cloverfield Lane; And Travis Cavalierethe chief Laika whose recent animated films were Missing link And Kubo and the two ropes. There may be one or two others in the mix.

Who would you like to see take on the sequel?
