THE RINGS OF POWER showrunners share details about their demolished STAR TREK 4 project

The Lord of the Rings: The rings of power showrunner, JD Payne And Patrick McKay they started out as screenwriters on the 2016 film Star Trek Beyond. The couple planned to write a fourth Star Trek film that sadly got scrapped, but they sat down with Esquire to explain to fans what it would be.

McKay started the conversation, explaining:

“I’d like to tell you. We worked on a couple of Star Trek movie. What you’re asking about would have been the fourth in the franchise, which reunites Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine. The presumption was that through a cosmic oddity in the Star Trek world, they were the same age. It would have been a father-son space adventure … think Indiana Jones and the last crusade in the space. We were really excited about it. We had an original villain and a real cool guy 2001: A Space Odyssey-esque sci-fi idea in the center. We worked on it for two and a half years with Lindsey Weber, our non-screenwriter executive producer Power rings, and an extraordinary director, SJ Clarkson. The film eventually fell apart and it was a real heartbreak for us. It’s part of what brought us here, because it got us thinking, “Gee, with a great intellectual property title, big movie stars and a story that we all felt would have a chance to be awesome, it couldn’t come together.” . We felt the wind was turning against the big movies, which is part of what got us started to take TV seriously. This led us to Power rings. But we would have loved to have made that film. I want to ruin a piece that is exciting, how they end up together. Can we do this, JD? “

Payne responded, saying:

“Sure, why not? There is an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called “Relics” where they find Scotty, who has been trapped in a transporter for a couple of decades, and are able to have fantastic adventures with him. Our presumption was, ‘What if just before the Kelvin hit that huge mining ship, George Kirk tried to beam down to his wife’s shuttle where his son, Jim Kirk, was just born? What if the ship didn’t completely explode … what if it left some space junk? ‘ Think about when you send a text message and you typed it, but you haven’t pressed send yet. On the other side, they see those three dots that someone typed. It is as if the teleporter has absorbed his pattern in the model buffer, but has not spit it out on the other side. It was actually a saved copy of him that was on the computer.

McKay added:

“So the adventure is that Chris Pine and the crew of the Business must search for the wreck of the ship on which his father died due to a mystery and a new villain. On the ship, they come across his father’s scheme. They teleport him and he has no idea that time has not passed and that he is watching his son. Then the adventure starts from there “.

It sounds like that Star Trek the movie was going to be really cool. Too bad he couldn’t get together, but maybe that will happen in the future? Maybe not, but never say never.
