The Dark Knight is still one of those superheroes from which many stories can be drawn, from horror to criminal thriller. Darren Aronosky, known for making complex and twisted stories, such as “Requiem for a Dream” or “Black Swan”, remembers that time when it was going to be an R-rated Batman movie, but they didn’t leave it because it was “ahead “in your time.

A few years ago, before Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” trilogy, Darren Aronosky tried to make a Batman movie, which would have been a project totally focused on an adult audience. The director began making sketches and drafts of the script, until eventually Warner suspended production and decided to archive everything that had to do with this story.

Now, in a recent interview for Variety, Aronofsky talked about the story he had planned for his Batman movie, based on ‘Year One’, the comic written by Frank Miller. After Joel Schumacher wrapped up his infamous Gotham Bat installments, Arofonsky says the studio was going through a “big setback,” which is why they bet on his story.

“I offered them a summary R-rated Batman origin story. But an R-rated superhero movie was probably ten or fifteen years out of step with the reality of the business at the time, “said the director,” said Darren Aronosfky. With the help of Frank Miller, the director finished the first script, presented it to Warner, and eventually backed off.

Darren Aronosky’s Batman movie was very “different”

The original idea was to make a more psychological Batman movie, and although the exact reasons why Warner decided to cancel production aren’t known, Aronofsky explains that “the studio wasn’t really interested. It was a very different bet ”from what he was used to at the time in the superhero genre.

Although his idea was discarded, Darren Aronofksy admits it wasn’t the right place or time: “Why can’t there be different kinds of comic films?” Now I’m here. It’s just that our proposal [para Batman] I was out of place then. “The director does not rule out venturing into the genre in the future,” if the right opportunity arose, I would.

Now, Aronofsky is promoting his new film with Brendan Fraser, “The Whale,” which will be the story of a father trying to make peace with his daughter, played by Sadie Sink. The release date is scheduled for December 9, 2022, although there is no release day for Mexico and Latin America.
