Del Toro also commented that during the entire production of the film, which was also attended by animators from Guadalajara, the artists behind the set came to talk to the puppets to give that magical sense to the whole film. Together with del Toro, the director shares the direction with legendary animator Mark Gustafson.

The film features the original voices of major Hollywood actors, including Ewan McGregor as Jiminy Cricket, David Bradley as Geppetto, and an introduction by Gregory Mann as Pinocchio. The cast also includes the participation of Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett; John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton.
