Derek and Maria Broaddus was the family on which it came ‘The observer’. This family, along with their three children, move to their new home at 657 Boulevard, New Jersey. Shortly after being home, the father begins renovating the building and notices a letter in his mailbox, which says, “Dear new neighbor, let me welcome you to the neighborhood.”

When everything seemed like a normal and warm welcome, they noticed a message in the letter that foreshadowed the hell they were about to go through. “How did they end up here? Did he call you 657 with his inner strength? ” According to information from New York magazine, on the front of the letter there may be a worrying message: “I’m watching you. Thank you for bringing young blood ”.

The anonymous sender signed his letters “The Watcher”, and even fast forward to the end, the police have never found the man, or any suspects, to date. The mystery man warned the Broaddus: “657 Boulevard has been my family object for decades and, as his 110th birthday approaches, I have been tasked with watching and waiting for his second coming. My grandfather looked at the house in the 1920s and my father looked at it in the 1960s. ”

Following the release of Netflix’s “The Watcher” trailer, a Twitter user found an article in The Cut, which details the case that the Broaddus went through and which inspired Ryan Murphy’s story. In the Observer’s last letter, he wrote: “Do you know what’s hiding within the walls of 657 Boulevard? Why are you here? I’m going to find out.”

The family immediately began to worry about the situation and the risk it could represent for their children. They contacted the police, who could not do anything, while calling the former owners of the house, they found out that the same thing had happened to them, and they left the place.
