Last week it was announced Todd McFarlane’S To produce the film was moving forward with a trio of new writers who will work on the screenplay. Those writers are Scott Silver (Joker), Malcolm Spellman (Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Captain America: New World Order), and ascending scribe Matt Mixon.
Jamie Foxx he’s also still tied to acting and the role of Spawn, but there’s a good chance McFarlane won’t direct the film as he recognizes he may not be the right person for the job. But he has a particular vision of what he wants his film of him to be.
During a recent interview with CB, McFarlane talked about his vision of Spawn’s character design for the new film, with which he is developing The walking dead special effects artist Greg Nicotero. He said:
“Grego Nicotero [of] The walking deadactually it was there the first To produce movie [in 1997]. He and I worked a lot while I was writing the script, so we created a lot of things. I showed it to people, but without saying, “You have to use any of this.” And I’ve shown a lot of works of art that are dark and mysterious and whatnot. “
At the moment, the design for this new theatrical version of Spawn is now finalized, but the creator is looking for a serious and sophisticated design. He explains:
“We don’t have to fix a look yet, because it will depend on what’s in that final script. But I think it has to be serious and sophisticated, right? It can’t be silly. It can’t look like a comic. It just needs to feel almost horror. I will continue to fight for this, we will see where we get. “
Nicotero has already talked about the Spaw design he is working on saying:
“We have drawings … [McFarlane] He walked in and said, ‘Look, we’re doing this thing, and it’s going to be low-budget, and it’s a little down and dirty. And I want it to look more like the animated show [Todd McFarlane’s Spawn], where it’s like Spawn meets David Fincher. ‘ He wanted to do this kind of gritty and dirty thing. And so, here we have worked a lot on the concept. We did a lot of designer busts and a lot of really cool stuff. And then it got stuck a bit. “
It will be nice to finally see what this new cinematic version of Spawn will look like! We hope this movie is finally made!
