Oscar and Golden Globe: What’s the Difference Between Award Ceremonies? –

The Golden Globes and Oscars are two of the biggest annual events of awards season. Find out how the starry ceremonies differ from each other.

Awards season is the best time of year for movie and television fans. They can see Series A Hollywood stars attending numerous ceremonies to celebrate the onscreen projects that have emerged throughout the year. From celebrities on dazzling red carpets to fans throwing home viewing parties, as well as memorable winners speeches and epic after parties, awards ceremonies are exciting for just about everyone.

The Golden Globe Awards and the Academy Awards, more commonly known as the Oscars, are two of the biggest awards ceremonies of each year. There are some key differences between the two, including the actual trophies the winners take home. The Golden Globe trophy is suitably enough a golden hand statue with a globe on top, while the Oscar statuette features a stylized knight holding a crusader sword. History

Both the Oscars and the Golden Globes already exist. long time. The Academy Awards were inaugurated on May 16, 1929, during a private dinner at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. At the ceremony, the best film of the last two years was awarded in 12 categories. It lasted only 15 minutes and was the only Oscar not broadcast on radio or television. Since then, the Oscars have been held annually and often have a guest. The ceremony will be broadcast on NBC or ABC.

The Golden Globes began on January 20, 1944, at 20th Century Fox studios in Los Angeles, California. It honored the best films of 1943. Television didn’t make it to the Golden Globes until 1957. There were only six categories for the 1st Golden Globe Awards. NBC usually broadcasts the ceremony.

When everyone is held

The Golden Globes usually take place at the start of awards season in January. Ceremonies were held several times in February. This happened in February 2021 due to delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Oscars, meanwhile, will be released at the end of awards season, which can happen anytime from late February to early April. The 2021 Oscar Awards have been postponed to April 25 due to COVID. Since the Golden Globes take place months before the Oscars, the first event often influences what happens at the final ceremony. In other words, we often see Golden Globe nominees and winners repeated at the Oscars. There are obviously exceptions where this happens, but it’s pretty common.

Who votes?

Different groups of voters determine the candidates and winners of each ceremony. The Golden Globe awards are presented by 105 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a nonprofit made up of international journalists from 55 countries. Oscar awards will be determined by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which will host approximately 9900 people from 2021. The Academy is an international organization and has an invitation-only membership. The Golden Globe Awards expanded into 25 categories. 14 for cinema and 11 for television. Categories are divided into Drama and Music/Comedy for both movies and TV. They celebrate acting and supporting acting achievements, as well as individual films and television shows. For movies, there are additional categories such as Best Original Song, Best Original Score, Best Animated Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Non-English Film.

There are 24 categories of Oscars, which only concern cinema. In addition to the usual Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, and other mainstream categories, the Oscars also feature more special movie awards. For example, the Academy celebrates the best makeup, best original story, best film editing, best sound mixing, best visual effects, and more.

The Oscars will go to the Golden Globes for Hollywood’s biggest ceremony. After all, winning an Oscar is a much higher appreciation for talent. The 2022 Golden Globe Awards were not televised after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was criticized for lack of diversity and unethical behavior. It turns out that the HFPA has no black members. HFP President Helen Hoehne promised to work “tirelessly” to make the organization better. It is not yet clear whether the Golden Globes 2023 will air on TV.
