Warner Bros. Animation has released the first teaser trailer for Mindy KalingHBO Max animated series Velma. We also have some new casting details to share with you! This will be a very adult animated series based on the beloved child cartoon Scooby Dooand I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it.
The series is gathering a large cast, which includes Mindy Kaling like Velma, Glenn Howerton like Fred, Sam Richardson like Norville (“Shaggy”), And Constance Wu like Daphne.
The series will tell the origin story of Velma Dinkley, “the unknown and underrated brain of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc gang. This fun, original version unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.” .
The teaser doesn’t give us much to start with, but it makes sure to shoot fans of the original immediately Scooby Doo series that talked about how they’re not happy that Velma was changed for this show.
Charlie Grandy (The office, the Mindy project) serves as showrunner / executive producer alongside Mindy Kaling, Howard Klein and Sam log.
The rest of the voice cast includes Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, Ken Leung, Cherry Jones, Frank Welker, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Fortune Feimster, Yvonne Orji, Sarayu Blue, Nicole Byer, Ming-Na Wen, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, Kulap Vilaysakand the cities of Karl-Anthony. And City of Carlo Antonio.
The ten-episode season will debut in 2023. I guess we’ll find out then whether this is a really good series or not. It has an impressive cast, though! Does this teaser make you excited to watch the series?
