Emily Watson (Chernobyl) And Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter) will star in HBO Max’s Dune: The Sisterhood series, which comes from Legendary Television and the producer Denis Villeneuve.
The story is set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ existence and follows the Harkonnen sisters as they fight the forces that threaten the future of humanity and found the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit. Watson and Henderson will play Valya Harkonnen and Tula Harkonnen, respectively, the formidable Harkonnen sisters, who rose to power in the Sisterhood.
The series is “designed to coexist” with the Dune film, and the story is told “through the eyes of a mysterious order of women known as the Bene Gesserit. Thanks to the extraordinary abilities of their mastery of body and mind, the Bene Gesserit skillfully intertwine through the feudal politics and intrigues of The Imperium, pursuing their own plans that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis, known to its inhabitants as Dunes .”
The series was created by Diane Ademu-John (The Haunting of Bly Manor, The OriginalsAnd the Vampire Diaries), which doubles as a showrunner. Alison Schapker is co-showrunner and executive producer. Johan Renck (Chernobyl) will direct the first episode and executive produce.
John Spaihtswho co-wrote the screenplay for Dune, also wrote The Sisterhoodand in a previous interview, she said, “The Bene Gesserit have always been fascinating to me. Focusing a series around that powerful order of women seemed not only relevant and inspiring, but also a dynamic setting for the television series.”
I’m curious to see how it turns out and just hope it’s as good and epic as the first one Dune that Villeneuve did.
