‘House of the Dragon’: The trailer for the next episode features another time jump and a replacement for the king

* We are talking about some relevant events of 1×07 and the anticipation of 1×08 of “The House of the Dragon”. If you haven’t seen the episode, read no further!

The trailer for the eighth chapter of “The House of the Dragon” is now available, a preview that shows us another time jump in the series and a replacement for King Viserys on the Throne of Swords. In this preview we can see the children of Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) as young adults, not as the children of the previous episode. Additionally, we see Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) next to the Throne of Westeros, which seems to suggest that the Hand of the King is replacing Viserys, who we don’t see at any point in this trailer.

“Like Mano, I speak in the King’s voice on this and all other matters.” With this sentence begins the trailer, with Otto standing before the Iron Throne, declaring his role as the monarch’s replacement. In front of him are the rest of the characters, highlighting the image of Rhaenyra, who disagrees with what she is witnessing. In a later image we see the princess express her concerns to her, now her husband of hers, Daemon (Matt Smith): “These vipers reign in my father’s name.”

Rhaenyra wants to make her uncle understand that they have problems and must resolve the issue, as the Hightowers are preparing a strategy to take power. In fact, in another image his character expresses: “This is a trap”. Daemon tells his niece that Lord Corlys, head of House Velaryon and Lord of Driftmark, was recently injured: “The sea serpent was badly wounded in the battle of the stone steps.” With this, it appears the rogue prince is suggesting to his wife that they might take the throne of Driftmark, as Corlys will likely have to step down from his duties as ruler.

“The threat of war is coming”, Otto assures us at the end of the trailer, confirming that we will soon have the real battle between the Targaryens and the Hightower ahead of us. This conflict is called the Dance of Dragons in George RR Martin’s book, ‘Fire and Blood’, and refers to the political and power conflicts that occur between the two houses after the death of Viserys, with one goal: the kingdom. and ascension to the Iron Throne.

A conflict with no return

The next episode will probably leave us with many more open fronts, because with each advance that occurs in the series, more conflicts seem to break out. The war is already almost palpable and the tension between the characters is a reality. The next chapter will arrive in Spain on Monday at 03:00, in the early hours of the morning, and will be broadcast on HBO Max.
