To prepare the ground for the arrival of the second part, Disney and James Cameron have decided to re-release the first film ‘Avatar’, with some surprises for fans who have waited more than 13 years to see Sully and Neytiri on the big screen. Thanks to its revival, the science fiction and action film is back at the top of the highest-grossing productions of all time.

When Marvel premiered “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019, for a moment “Avatar’ became the second highest-grossing film in history, Disney later decided to launch it in China and parts of Asia and regained the top spot, for a few thousand dollars. Now, to celebrate everyone’s update for “The Way of the Water”, it’s out in theaters again.

Just last weekend, ‘Avatar’ raised $ 18 million in the United States and nearly $ 40 million worldwide, a total of nearly $ 3 billion in its entire box office run. Then he regains his throne again, leaving behind the epic “Avengers: Endgame” with its $ 2.8 billion.

But even if the first part was a success, James Cameron doesn’t think ‘Avatar: The Way of Water ‘passes the first part, which will arrive on December 15 of this year 2022 in theaters around the world. “I was a little worried that I had stretched too far, in our fast-paced modern world, with ‘Avatar 2’ coming 12 years later.”

The highest-grossing films of all time

Although currently the first of the highest-grossing films in history belongs to James Cameron’s “Avatar”, and in very close second place to “Avengers: Endgame”, there are three tapes that have not been re-released and only their box office in the United States have passed their international box office and are “The Dark Knight”, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and finally “Black Panther” from 2018.

Of the top places in the rankings through 2019, 26 of the places are occupied by films produced and / or distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, 9 by Marvel Studios and four by Pixar. Until now there are a few months to know the expectations that exist around “Avatar: The Way of Water”, but its fans are hoping that it lives up to what was the original installment.
