Here is some completely strange and unexpected news that arrived today! Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, The Millionaire) will direct a dance adaptation of The Wachowskis’classic science fiction hit movie from 1999 The matrix.

The project is titled Free your mindand the production is described as a “large-scale immersive performance”. The Warner Bros. Theater Ventures licensed project will debut next October at Factory International, a new arts venue in Manchester, UK

He explains: “Combining the hip-hop choreography of hundreds of dancers with the latest engaging design, ‘Free Your Mind’ will take the audience on an exciting journey through ‘The Matrix’ and into a new realm of possibility. This illuminating production will extend through the ultra-flexible spaces of the building, responding to them and exploiting the collective energy of the moment “.

Boyle has worked on various types of projects over the years, including several films and the 2012 London Olympics. But this is his first time directing a dance show on stage. It will be interesting.

Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante is composing the music for the dance show while Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy is the choreography. Tracey Seaward, Boyle’s longtime collaborator, will produce. Poet playwright Sabrina Mahfouz and artist Es Devlin I’m also on board to write and provide large-scale sculptures.
