All the houses of House of the Dragon that appear in the series to understand the history of the Targaryens

In August 2022, the streaming service HBO Max premiered one of the series that could become the top within the platform, a phenomenon similar to what it would have caused 10 years ago with “Game of Thrones” and which would have tried to repeat with his prequel “The House of the Dragon”. This fantasy production takes place 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and therefore there are houses that should be explained.

As we all know ‘House of the Dragon’occurs many years before the original series and develops the history of the Targaryen family, when this lineage rode dragons and their children were the ones who ruled the 7 kingdoms. This is how HBO Max premiered this year the series that abounds in the family we already knew in GOT as one of the most famous and powerful of the saga, but it is not the only one.

In the Prequel to “Game of Thrones”. Some of the most important events of the dynasties are addressed, developing the story mainly through King Viserys I and Princess Rhaenyra, of which we had already had some references in GOT. Velaryon House

In this family, its members are sailors who were in the service of the Targaryens to help them gain control of the kingdom, a power that money gave them, being one of the richest in Westeros. Their absolute leader is Corly Velaryon or better known as Sea Snake, one of the most powerful men in all of history.

However, Casa Velaryon is very different from how we knew it in the books. In the literary version, they are described as characters with closed eyes, white skin and hair, but for the adaptation the creators decided to make a significant change.

Considered one of the oldest and therefore most powerful houses of the ‘House of the Dragon’, from which it originates Alicent Hightower, wife of King Viserys I with whom she fathered her son Aegon II. They originally hail from the mighty city before King’s Landing was built and although they were sent to the Red Keep after the king’s death and didn’t matter in the original series, they could be a key piece in the prequel to end the Targaryens.

One of the most famous and powerful houses in “Game of Thrones” is the Stark. They meet in Winterfell with Cregan Stark as their leader, who seems to have no interest in getting involved in the conflicts of other houses. Interest changes when Rhaenyra sends her son to form an alliance with them.

Lannister house

House Lannister is one of the main houses of GOT, has a large army and, of course, a huge fortune that has filled them with power. In ‘House of the Dragon’ they are not exactly the most important and settle very far from the Iron Throne, their leader is Jason Lannister who tried to marry the Princess Rhaenyra with absolute failure.

Targaryen House

Of course, in the “Game of Thrones” prequel, the Targaryen house is the most important as it is the center of the whole story. They are at the head of the kingdom and have the crown that initially belongs to Viserys I, then Princess Rhaenyra is the heir to become the new queen in the company of her uncles.

The Targaryens have the most power, although supposedly, they have the most important and powerful dragons, as well as having an important relationship with the Velaryons, reasons enough for anyone daring to challenge them.

Just like in the original series Daenerys Targaryen was one of the most important characters, now in “House of the Dragon” we see Rhaenyra Targaryen almost 200 years before showing the total connection that families have from the past and how they were fundamental inside and outside the prequel.
