In a recent interview with Empire Online, Wright explained:

“Shuri’s journey has allowed me to suffer, cry, laugh and gain strength that I never thought I could have. Trials and tribulations make you who you are. Either you bend over or you get up and go again. I feel like Shuri keeps looking at me every day, wondering if I should fold or go again. And I kept going until the healing started happening for me.

Asked if Shuri might be the only one to take Black Panther’s name and throne, Wright said:

“This is a difficult question to answer. I talked to Ryan and Chad about it while we were shooting Black Panther, and we touched on it briefly. When I realized I was playing Shuri, it was something I was really looking forward to.

This is a nice little step backwards, as obviously it can’t ruin what happens in the movie! But we don’t have to wait long at this point. Black Panther: Wakanda forever will be released in theaters on November 11th.
