With the strange house’s upcoming 100th anniversary, the Winchester Mystery House today announced a Centennial Celebration that will include a variety of exhibits, programs and events, including a one-of-a-kind 100th birthday celebration in June 2023, throughout. 2022-2023.

This September, exactly 100 years since Sarah Winchester, heir to the Winchester Repeating Arms fortune, died at home in her bizarrely beautiful mansion, the Winchester Mystery House will welcome guests to a Celebration of Life for Sarah Winchester. Tours open at 10am and all ticketed guests will receive a commemorative cabinet card and will be encouraged to leave flowers, tickets, photos and mementos in the front gardens that day. (Note: naked flames are not allowed). That evening at 7pm and 9.30pm, Winchester Mystery Houses invites guests to Beyond the Veil, a supernatural event hosted by world-renowned psychic medium James Van Praagh. On this sacred occasion, 25 special guests will join James as he walks the halls of Sarah’s home and attempts to connect with Sarah and the spirits who still call the Winchester Estate home. After a two-year hiatus, Winchester Mystery House announced today that its popular immersive Halloween show will return this fall with an entirely new chapter, Unhinged: Curse of Nightshade. Slated to be the premier Halloween haunt in South Bay, this year’s experience invites guests into a real-life paranormal thriller. Featuring a new storyline and terrifying new fears, this suspenseful haunt features multiple paths through the dark corridors of the infamous mansion, where guests will face evil spirits and encounter terrifying scenes that will reveal the twisted tales and secrets of the haunted house. Before entering the venue, guests will be able to enjoy a variety of activities, including Madame Nightshades Spirit Carnival, the Creepy barand more. Unhinged: Curse of Nightshade will take place in 13 evenings selected by From Friday 30 September to Monday 31 October 2022. Coinciding with the Centennial celebration, the Winchester Mystery House was launched Walk with the spirits, a brand new intimate and interactive tour experience focused on spiritualism and the paranormal. Tour guests begin their journey into the past through the main doors and in a Victorian wake in the living room. There a tour guide will guide them through the most gruesome traditions of death and mourning in the 19th century. Guests will then proceed to the upper floors of the mansion where they will hear about the spiritualists who actively practiced in the Santa Clara Valley during the late 1880s before experiencing the sights and sounds of a Victorian séance. Guests will then be led through a series of dark and eerie spaces, hearing stories of the supernatural and spiritual phenomenon that the guests and employees of the Winchester Mystery House have recorded over the years. Finally, they will arrive in the basement, the very foundation of the house. If they are lucky, or perhaps unlucky, guests can have an interaction with the villa’s most famous residents. The Winchester Mystery House Official Souvenir Book, last published over 30 years ago, has been updated in anticipation of the Centennial Celebration. The latest edition highlights Sarah Winchester’s story and her home with historic photographs, recent renovations, staff stories and an overview of the influence the Winchester Mystery House has had on pop culture. The new book is now available for purchase in the Winchester Mystery House Gift Shop and online at winchestermysteryhouse.com.
On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December, Winchester Mystery House will host the 4th Annual Market of Oddities for the Seraglio Holidays. With vendors selling collectibles, antiques, and strangely unique handmade items, from taxidermy to dark art, the Menagerie Holiday Oddities Market is the official San Francisco Bay Area Oddities and Curiosities event. While on-site, guests are welcome to experience self-guided tours through the haunted corridors of the Winchester Mystery House before or after the market. The Winchester Mystery House has inspired films, books and television programs for 100 years. Starting in June 2023, Winchester Mystery House will unveil the Centennial Exhibition which explores the effect of the Winchester Mystery House on pop culture and will feature original marketing materials, photos and unpublished artifacts curated by the Summer historian.
