A few weeks ago, ‘Bardo, false chronicle of few truths’, Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu’s latest film, had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, where it received mixed reviews from critics. It will now arrive in Mexico as part of the activities of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). And that’s not all, as Netflix has just released the official trailer for the film.

As part of its return to cinema in Mexico, after 20 years in Hollywood, the film ‘Bardo’ will be commissioned to open this edition of the FICM. It will not be the first time that Iñárritu opens the festival, as he had already done with Birdman (2014), Biutiful (2010) and the restored version of Amores perro in 2020.

The Morelia International Film Festival It is the biggest celebration of Mexican cinema and this 2022 will celebrate its 20th anniversary. And what better celebration than with one of the most anticipated films of the year, which drew endless comments, from the already controversial Alejando Gonzales Iñarritu.

Netflix premieres the Bard trailer

On Thursday 22 September, Netflix premiered the official trailer for “Bardo, a false chronicle of few truths”, which will not only be part of the Morelia International Film Festival, but also of festivals such as the Telluride Film Festival or the BFI London, which will will take place in early October.

‘Bardo’ is the latest feature by the acclaimed director Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu. Which marks his return to filming in Mexico after 20 years, since his first film, and a classic of contemporary Mexican cinema, was Love dogs 2000, a film that catapulted the director to fame.

‘Bardo’ has among its protagonists Griselda Siciliani and Daniel Giménez Cacho, the latter playing the role of a Mexican journalist who, after many years abroad, returns to Mexico before receiving an international award, but realizes that the reality I used to know is no longer the same. From this, he begins to question aspects of his origin, identity, family and friends, since, it no longer belongs here, but it never belonged there.

‘Bardo’ presents in the scenography the work of Eugenio Caballero, nominated for an Oscar for his role in ‘Rome’ and ‘Pan’s labyrinth’, with the latter film the artist won the prestigious statuette. For the costume design there is Ana Terrazas, who also worked on Rama.

The photograph was made by Darios Khondji, who has worked on films such as “Se7en”, “My Blueberry Nights”, “Midnight in Paris”, “Amour” and “Okja”. The music, on the other hand, is entrusted to Bryce Dessner, with whom he had already collaborated on ‘The Revenant’. Bardo, is released in theaters on October 27 and then joins the Netflix catalog on December 16.
