Will Smith has boarded a new film project that he will produce and most likely star. He is called Brillianceand is based on the book of Marco Sakey. Smith is also cooperating Lady Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy on the project.
Apparently this is a passion project by Smith, producer and writer Akiva Goldsman who worked together I, Robot, I am the legendAnd Hancock.
In the story, “If 1% of the world’s children were born with powerful gifts, how would society adapt to them? The Brilliance novel trilogy is set in a future where non-neurotypical people – demonized by society as “twists” or “anomalies” – are threatening the status quo of the “normal” population with their unique gifts. They are officially labeled “brilliant” and are closely monitored by the government. “
If Smith stars in the film, he will play the story’s hero, Nick Cooper, “a federal agent who works for the Department of Analysis and Response. His job is to track down and put an end to the abnormal criminals who use their gifts for evil. The agent himself is an abnormal, with a gift for predictive analytics that allows him to see what will happen before it happens and react preemptively. He is also the father of a brilliant daughter. “
As he infiltrates a radical group of Brilliants who intend to incite a civil war, “he uses his gifts against his Brilliant enemies, like an assassin who senses time faster than his opponents. When Cooper is ordered to hunt down John Smith, the most elusive and dangerous anomaly in the country, everything Cooper believes will be questioned. As one of the abnormals he is chasing he tells him, ‘You can’t stop the future. All you can do is choose your side. ‘”
I don’t know, that story doesn’t interest me much because it has already been done several times. Hell, it’s like Marvel’s entire mutant scenario X-Men comics.
This would be Smith’s first major new movie project since slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.
