When Lucasfilm first announced a new Star Wars series that she would focus on Thief One Cassian Andor character, I wasn’t thrilled at all. I personally didn’t find the character very interesting. Then the trailers of Star Wars: Andor it started to be released and the footage I saw piqued my interest. This actually started to seem like a story I might be interested in watching. The more I saw, the more excited I got about the series. But I had to keep my expectations in check.
The best thing to come from Star Wars in a long time it was The Mandalorian series. Both Boba Fett’s book And Obi-Wan Kenobi he dropped the ball forcefully with the narrative and we couldn’t be sure how Andor was about to go.
I’ve seen the first four episodes of the series and I’m happy to say I’ve loved it so far! This series is a slow-burning story that takes time to build the story and the characters that fill it. These characters are involved in an intricate situation that takes time and planning, and I love that the series is using their time wisely to build this heist of the Empire. Yes, this is a Star Wars robbery story, and this is turning out to be a great robbery story so far!
This is a very different type of Star Wars project. The series is gritty, grounded, and the writing and storytelling aspect is clever. One of the things I appreciate the most about this series is that it isn’t dumbfounded like some of the previous Star Wars projects. All this thanks to the writer of the series and the executive producer Tony Gilroy.
Gilroy worked Thief Oneit also has movies in Bourne franchise, and it’s that intense level of storytelling we’re looking for Andor! This is the kind of fantastic storytelling I wish the other disappointing projects had had. Just clever writing and a story that respects the audience and doesn’t treat them like crazy.
The 12-episode series is set five years before the events of Thief One and is described as a “tense, nail-biting spy thriller”, and it is! History traces how and why Cassian joined the rebellion as the Empire aggressively expanded its reach across the galaxy. The series is described as a “refugee story” that sees people trying to escape from a full-fledged empire.
While the story focuses on the rebel agent Andor in the early days of the rebellion against the Empire, the series also explores a lot about the inner workings of the Empire. He’s exploring the Empire and the Rebellion in a different way than anything we’ve seen before, and I appreciate that. There is an intimacy in this series that resonates with me.
Also, the most amazing thing the series is doing for me is that it’s actually making me interested in a character that I’ve never cared about before. Diego Luna he’s back in the role of Andor and he’s doing a great job. He joined him Stellan Skarsgard (Thor), Adria Arjona (Morbio), Fiona Shaw (Kill Eve), Denise Gough (Under the banner of heaven) And Kyle Soller (Poldark). Then, there is Forest Whitaker who will reprise the role of Saw Gerrera, Genevieve O’Reilly like Mon Mothma.
I have no idea if this series will hit fans the same way it hit me. I really hope people enjoy it and see the strengths in it that I see.
