The “Star Wars” universe has endless possibilities, even in the stories they insist on telling over and over again. One of these, the most important, is the Rebellion that ended the Galactic Empire. There are many heroes and heroines who have paraded on the screen in films and series that talk about that period. But there was always someone in the shadows that little was known about: Mon Mothma. This political leader has appeared in the saga on numerous occasions, but always as a background figure while the protagonists went on adventures. Now, with “Andor”, this seems to change.
“For the first time we can see her behind the cameras”says Genevieve O’Reilly, the actress who brings the character to life, in an exclusive interview for eCartelera, “We will be able to see everything he has to give, the cost of his role, how he has to fight”. O’Reilly returns in character for the third time after playing her in “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. But the actress is clear that this time she will finally see her “a woman who has to fight for what she believes in”.
In ‘Andor’, one of the key points for O’Reilly seems to be the contrast between the war waged by the protagonist, Cassian Andor, and the political events of Mon Mothma. “You have both sides of the battle. You have aggression and combat, but you also have diplomacy and political action.”she enthuses. All this, of course, for the Rebellion. And that’s it “we need people on the battlefield, who fight”reflect, “but we also need people who fight for us politically”.

A different Star Wars
Thanks to this duality, “Andor” would be able to show an aspect never seen before in Star Wars. “The design and feel of the series has its roots in ‘Rogue One'”O’Reilly exposes, “But there’s also something unique and exciting about it. You feel like it exists in the Star Wars universe but it also exists on its own.”. In fact, he argues that the series can also see places and people new to the franchise “Go to Coruscant, Mon Mothma and what you knew before”.
Preview of “Andor”. on September 21st on Disney +.
