Britain’s longest reigning monarch, Queen II. Elizabeth’s death today has sparked tribute and praise from politicians, musicians, film and television personalities, sports franchises, and cultural institutions.

President Biden issued a lengthy statement pledging to maintain the “special relationship” between the United States and Great Britain, saying, “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was more than just a monarch. She marked an era.”

The Rolling Stones, themselves a great example of longevity, said that Queen was “a perpetual presence in their lives, as in many others.”

Stones frontman Mick Jagger, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 2002, also recalled his strength: Elizabeth was always there. I remember watching the wedding events on TV when I was a kid. I remember her as a beautiful young woman, a very dear grandmother to Erie. My deepest condolences to the royal family.”

Helen Mirren, who won an Oscar for her role as The Monarch KingShe wrote that she was “a woman who was a symbol of nobility, with or without a crown.”

Sir Elton John described the Queen as “a versatile inspiring presence who guides the country in our greatest and darkest moments with grace, kindness and genuine warmth”.

In a statement about his mother, current King Charles said: “In this time of mourning and change, my family and I will find solace in knowing the respect and deep love that is so venerated for the Queen.
